A GOOD WEEK and FEELING OLD

I won't say we've had a perfect week, but not far from it.   Monday morning David was quiet, and sat with his head hanging down all morning.    Around noon, I ask if he'd like to go to Olive Garden.  I couldn't believe how he perked up.  So far, he's never turned down the opportunity to go there.   I'm thinking, as often as we go to this particular restaurant,  I need to buy stock in Olive Garden....

We came home, he tried to read his newspaper,  and then into the pool.  He tried to coax Casey into the pool with him, to no avail.    She says "no thank you!"
Memories and melancholy moments..... I remember the birth of our grandson.........and now,    he's going to the prom.......................
Another grandson getting all A's, Student Council and a Certificate of Recognition ....... .  (note his pink cast matches his shirt)
Our granddaughter getting engaged, to be married next year.  How time flies......
It seems like only yesterday, they were toddlers.

And I say, "thank you God!"

Delores...

When my big sister and I were in HS we did a lot of singing together as well as apart. As part of a scholarship program with our church (Nazarene) we would enter into contests called "Teen Talent" in hopes of snagging some needed funds for our college education. Our father, a pastor, was incapable of sending us both to a private Christian College so we needed to be pro-active in coming up with ways to cut down the cost for ourselves.

One year in particular my sister, who was singing a solo (a song called "To Be With Him" (she was and still is an amazing soprano), was competing against a girl who sang a song I had never heard before. It only had seven words. This girl had a bluesy kind of voice and was an incredible alto. Beautiful presentation and very talented...the words simply said this:

"Thank you Lord. Thank you Lord. Thank you Lord, for what you've done!

Thank you Lord. Thank you Lord.
Thank you Lord, for what you've done.

Thank you!
Thank you!
Thank you, Lord.
Thank....you.
Lord....
For What You've Done...

Thank you Lord. Thank you Lord. Thank you Lord, for what you've done!"

Although my sister was by far the better singer and won the contest, because the girls rendition of song with so few words was sooo powerful I've never, ever forgotten it, or her. I believe she sang it just for me that day.

I was only 14.

Today I'm singing it in my heart for you.

Love, Rebecca

It is so nice to see David's smile, Dolores. I am glad it is so easy to make him happy. You really do need to buy Olive Garden stocks. And isn't it wonderful to have a pool that he enjoys? It looks like beauty and brains run in the family....Christine

Delores, I just wanted to stop by and say thanks for the comment you left on my blog. I guess David gets depressed often about his condition; I think its a miracle too that he holds up as well as he has. I thank God for that for him AND for you. I know the sorrow of losing a loved one a piece at a time. David is doing remarkably well. I'm glad there are things that he still finds pleasure in and Olive Garden is a great place to enjoy yourselves. You have a beautiful family; that pool looks so cool and inviting. Each day must literally seem like a gift to you; I think many of us take them for granted. You always remind me not to do that. Praying for strength for you and David and more happy days!

Hi Dolores - I love the picture of David smiling in the pool. He DOES look happy! I know what you mean about them smiling. We went and got my mother in law yesterday after church and told her we were taking her out for lunch. Her eyes lit up and she smiled and was happy for awhile. She ordered way too much food at Traditions (like Luby's) but we let her do it, and she enjoy a little bit of everything. It's such a blessing to see them smile. THank God for small things!

Your grandkids are so purty. My oldest son's hair is long like your grandson's. Don't worry about it. If that's all they do, it's nothing. IN fact, I kinda like it. Reminds me of my generation growing up in the 60's and 70's. God bless you both, friend!

I can't begin to thank you for starting this blog, what a blessing to so many! Thank your friend, again. :) My father had dementia, my mother says the doctor said it was not Alzheimers but it sure acted the same.
I have many of the symptoms that you related about David when he was in his 60's (I am 64)needless to say I was doing a lot of sniffeling (sp) while reading your posts. Many were for your situation, others for your wonderful positive attitude, some for what my mother went through, and some about my fears.
I will be back to follow your family and pray that each day will bring you 'smiles'.

Olive Garden should be paying you! The pool looks so inviting and refrehsing. I think Margot (our mini schnauzer) would have had the same reaction as Casey.

Congrats to you and your grand kids on all the wonderful milestones!

Watching children grow and change and celebrate life passages is so bittersweet. Congratulations on all their accomplishments and news-worthy events. :)

Glad Olive Garden is still something that perks David right up. How nice when someone we love changes from gray skies to sunny.

I continue to read, because you and David's and God's love story blesses me.
