I'm sounding redundant, and I love it...... but... David is still doing great!
He's always been a routine person...., but with Alzheimer's he needs routines even more than before. He eats the same breakfast each morning (old fashioned oatmeal with 4 prunes and honey, a piece of whole grain toast with peanut butter, orange juice and coffee), he watches Good Morning America, shaves, gets dressed, takes Casey for a walk, reads the newspapers and sweeps the porch and patio...
I'm trying to think of something for him to do that would help fill some of his time during the day, and also help him feel productive.
I suggested we go to Hobby Lobby (I love this store).... he doesn't love it, but with his sweet disposition, he tolerates going up and down the aisles. His reward was going to Johnny Carino's for lunch afterwards. I was hoping that maybe I could find something in the hobby section for him to do.
As we walked up and down the craft/hobby aisles...... I tried to think of something he could do with his hands (this was very hard). I suggested maybe stringing beads..... and he nixed that idea, until I said that he could possibly make some bracelets or necklaces for the girls..... then he said...."yes, let's see what I can do."

I bought some kits to make bracelets....... .After returning home........ I started thinking about the time we would have with the grandchildren this summer, and maybe this would be something he could do with the children when they spend a few days with us.......Meanwhile we'll see if he wants to try stringing!

I shouldn't show this photo, but I think it's soooo sweet. I was working on my blog in the study, and I walked into the bedroom to go to bed........"where am I going to sleep?"
And I say, "thank you God for more good days!"

Your bed looks like how our bed often looks, except the cat is usually on the pillow and the dog is where i would put my feet. We know how we rate, right?
I love to read how you are so grateful for each day. Peace be with you, Dolores!
Gosh it's been a long time since I've seen that picture of dad with Molly... love it! I know he loves Casey, but I have such fond memories of how much he adored Molly! I remember how he taught her to shake hands :-)
I'm glad you decided to share the picture of your bed :-) Cute!
I think the girls would love to string beads with their Pope!
I am so glad that God is giving you and dad so many good days together! Amen to that!
You are so right .... this is sweet and very, very funny photo!
OK ~ I must share this story with you, so bear with me.
Shortly after bringing Mother to Florida to live with Carl and me it was time for all of us to get ready for bed. Carl's room and Mother's room were on one side of the ranch house, mine on the other. Carl and Mother shared a bathroom. We had her go first to get ready - brush teeth, wash face, etc - and Carl second. When Mother came out of the bathroom I was in my bathroom on the other side of the house so I didn't tuck her in. I came back into the TV room to finish the news, Carl came out of the bathroom and in a voice I can only describe as one of Goldilocks three bears ... he said "MOMMY KISSEL ... THAT'S MY BED! With emphasis on the MY. Well, yes, Mother had climbed into his bed ~ a water bed! If you could have seen us "rolling" Mother out of that bed you would have died laughing. We still talk about that today ... and we still laugh about it.
Really enjoy this weekend! We have a hot air balloon festival going on here in Bend.
Love the picture of David and the dog sharing the bed. Finding little things to enjoy often makes the day more pleasant.
I know that your time is spent trying to keep that David that you knew. I went the hobby route only Elbert was not interested in one single thing. He had been such an outdoors person. Hunting had been his hobby and he could no longer do that. At present about all we can do is watch some tv (he likes some movies and of course, Alabama football in the Fall) He tries to read but he is almost blind in one eye so that's difficult.
My heart aches for you. Keep strong, keep the faith and treasure each day, each moment that you have together.
Hello My friend...I do have a suggestion for David...as my MIL had ALS and all his life worked with his hands...so when he moved in with me I got bird house kits so he could put them together and paint them...He would spend hours working on these...some turned out great some not so great...but it was all about keeping him busy and using his hands..maybe think about that my friend...May you have a great weekend..and Where are you going to sleep???Hugs and smiles Gl♥ria
