ME..... TRYING TO LEARN SOME LESSONS

BEFORE and AFTER
I cut off the legs of David's old jeans
I haven't used my sewing machine in several years...
A little cutting and stitching
Ellie had so much fun
DECORATING
Now she has a purse!
We've had a great week with Ellie. David wouldn't string beads, but they played in the pool. He wouldn't play cards, but he did cuddle with her. She was very sweet and understanding....when he declined playing games.

As we sat outside Wednesday evening, David was having the 'eyes of the beholder' again. He commented on all the birds that he saw. I made the mistake of asking him where they were. It really upset him that it was obvious that I didn't see them. I won't ask again.....sometimes I can be a slow learner.

Yesterday morning he jumped out of bed, very excited and said someone was knocking at the door. We went to the door and no one was there. He's really doing well, it's mostly his eyes and ears playing tricks on him...... hallucinations (I don't like that word!) However ..... his memory is still good.
We went to Olive Garden this week, and I normally make sure that we're seated where I can see the men's restroom from our table. They were busy, and we sat in an area far away from the restrooms..... At the end of our meal, David went to the restroom .....after awhile, I started worrying that he wouldn't find us. Ellie and I went outside the restroom and waited and waited.... no David. I went inside the men's restroom and no David.... we walked all over the restaurant.... no David..... We walked outside(me very worried) he was sitting on the bench outside the door, very nonchalant. He said, "I knew you'd have to come outside at some time.".... he wasn't worried at all.... lesson learned for me............ From now on I will always go with him and wait outside the door. He knows where he is, but I don't......... I'm a slow learner, but I'm sure trying to learn some lessons from all of this.............

And I say, "thank you God that I've 'hopefully' learned some lessons."

What a darling purse for Ellie. Aren't children a treasure during this time. Mr. P. always seems to do a bit better when our Bailey is here. Bailey comes today for a couple of days and that will put some laughter back in the house. Always thinking about you my friend. Have a good w/k..

Ellie looks so proud of her purse! It turned out great! I have great memories of the blue jean purses that you made for me! Thank you for doing that with her!

I hope you 'feel' the hundreds of prayers for you and David by the many people who love you both, Dolores.
Your Alzheimer's Journey is meaningful not only to those who are traveling the same path - but to everyone who cares about and loves you.
God bless . . .

Hope

Some great lessons learned. It's so hard to veer from what we normally do and learn new ways of watching and caring.

Ellie sure is a cutie and I know that she and David had a great time this week.

I have always loved Ellie's smile! You are doing great being creative and flexible with David's changes.

You handle Uncle David's "beholding eyes" so gracefully Aunt D. We should all be so lucky to have someone show us the compassion and love that you give to him everyday. You do a very good job of it even though you may doubt yourself sometimes!!

The purse is PRECIOUS!! And I can see from the smile on her face that she's SO HAPPY to be with you both!

See you when I get back...it's Vegas here we come!!! :-))))
Love you!!
