From the beginning of David's Alzheimer diagnosis, I've hoped and prayed for newer and better medications to slow the disease, and better yet, to STOP it! I'm thankful for Aricept and Namenda, and I know they've slowed the progression, but ....not a cure. I want something better NOW!!!
I'm watching David slowly regress, and yet there are days that he amazes me! Last night I told him we needed to go to Home Depot today..... this morning, he reminded me... I Praise God for small miracles such as this.....
On these hot/humid summer days, I'm so thankful for our pool. David enjoys swimming and cooling off each afternoon, and when he's in the pool, he always has a happy face........Praise God!
Silly me......... today I tried again to show David the phone and how to pick up the receiver. As I'm trying to show him, I'm thinking that I shouldn't be doing this...... but I did, and he just looked at me and said, "Sweetie, I can't." Did I say that I'm a slow learner......
Here's the latest Lily Bud report: would you believe she's still nursing...... she has a sweet mama.

Exciting Discoveries in Alzheimer's Disease
The Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation primarily funds the research of Nobel laureate Dr. Paul Greengard. Dr. Greengard and his team of scientists have recently developed new technologies that will accelerate the pace of future Alzheimer's research. Based on these new findings, we have increased our funding commitment to support the promising new research initiatives that are now possible.- 35 million people worldwide have Alzheimer’s disease
- 5.3 million Americans have Alzheimer's
- Every 70 seconds someone in America develops Alzheimer’s disease
- Alzheimer's, now the fifth leading killer, rose 47% from 2000 to 2006
- 54% of the U.S. population has been touched in some way by Alzheimer's
- Presently, there is no cure for Alzheimer’s disease
- And I say, "thank you God for each new day."

Dolores,
don't lose heart~ You and David are in my thoughts and prayers.
Love and Blessings,

I am glad to see David's happy face too. Amazing the kitty is still nursing. He looks big already....Christine
The big smile really does say a lot, and it makes me happy too!
The kitten no longer looks like a kitten, but why stop a good thing like free milk when Mom is so obliging?
I'm glad David enjoys the pool. That smile on his face says it all.
We have a feral cat and three "kittens" in our yard. The "kittens" now look almost like cats (they were born around April 1st) and the mother still nurses them. They get plenty to eat. They look about the same size as your "kitten." I guess that's kind of normal.
I hope to catch the first one this Wednesday to take and have fixed. I've got a humane trap all ready. I don't want any more kittens!
So glad to see him Smiling and enjoying the pool! Sweet smile!
Lily is a cutie!
Sweet day to you!!
(((HUG)))
His smile says it all !
The Mama and kitten pick is adorable. My daughter just adopted another tuxedo cat, he is so affectionate.
Things are calm here these days, I thank God for small pleasant moments as well.
Wishing many more smiles for you and David
Diane
I'm so happy that David continues to smile thru all this. Hope you still can too!
It makes my day every time I read your posts.
David has such a joyful smile! The pool looks so refreshing - I want to dive right in!

So good to see David looking so happy in the pool.
Your struggles with getting David to use the phone remind me of the struggles my mom had with it. She often forgot to hang it up or put it down to go get something and forgot to come back to it. When she moved into asst. living I wrote my number real large and taped it right next to the phone. She would never call me because she said she didn't remember my #. But then, one time she called me real early in the morning and I was shocked. I asked her if she dialed my # and she said of course she did. She proceeded to talk about a conversation we had the previous day. At this time it was unheard of for her to remember a recent conversation like that. It was like a strange moment of clarity amidst all of the confusion that had become the norm for her.
I continue to pray for a cure to this disease and hope it comes soon.
Adorable picture of Lily Bud.
David looks soooo happy. That must be such good medicine for your soul. I know how you love him. :)
LilyBud has a good mama.
I pray (as you do) that they can not only slow the progression of this disease, as they do now, but prevent it entirely.
Hugs and prayers...
That Lily Bud is as big as her mama!!! I'm praying for a cure also and for you and David!!! Patience is such a difficult thing.
My first husband died from colon cancer and my best friend just had surgery to remove a section of her colon due to a suspicious lesion...do you know that it was done with a laprascope!!! I couldn't believe the advances that have been made since 1993!!
What a wonderful pleasure for David...I am so envious of that pool, right now! It is over 90 here and our first real hot day. Glad it gives you a smile too! Thanks for commenting on my blog.
Doesn't look like much of a kitten anymore! Silly Lily!
David looks like he's really enjoying himself there in that pool. Wow - I'd love to have one of those. We'll just savor and thank the Lord for those wonderful moments of clarity that we can cling to, Dolores. Tony still tries to get his mom to remember how to do things or what NOT to do. I just get his attention and shake my head no. But it's only natural to do that, cuz we so desperately want our loved ones to remember. You enjoy those beautiful smiles of David's!
I am so glad David remembered you needed to go the Home Depot today. Sorry about the phone. But OH!!! he looks wonderful in the pool. You need to jump in to. The kitties are so sweet.
Hi Aunt Dolores!
I got to it through the internet and I'm going to comment anonymously...maybe I'll get through that way...we'll see!
I love the Mama and baby pic...so cute! And of course my sweet uncle's beautiful smile!!!
Love you! L~
Dolores, David looks so happy! He's obviously well cared for and it shows.
Now, that's one patient mama cat.
