Happy and Sad

We've had two of our grandchildren here for several days. David handled the changes fairly well.    Our 17 year old grandson is so smart and very patient;  he spent most of his time setting up my  new computer, and spending time with his cousin's who live nearby.
Our 10 year old granddaughter is so sweet!    She loved playing with our cats and dog and swimming in the pool.

Lily Bud is growing up and having a good life.
This phone has been so important to me!!!   It's given me a sense of comfort when I go somewhere for just a short time.   Sometimes David doesn't want to go with me, and I call to check on him and tell him I'm on my way home.
Picking up the receiver to this telephone, sounds so simple, but Alzheimer's has dealt a new loss......I called and called him one day this week and he never answered, so I assumed he was outside sweeping, but when I came home he was inside.   He said he heard the phone ringing, but couldn't remember how to answer it.........I'm grieving the loss of something so simple.....but when I look at his happy face with our granddaughter......I say, "thank you God for grandchildren and happy faces!"

sweet one, we take SO MUCH for granted don't we?

these moments with *the grands* will mean the world to them the older they get.

hugs to you.

Janean is right we do take so much fro granted.
Your grands are wonderful !
Children are a joy!
Were doing it one day at a time too, everyday is a challenge for MIL, our names are eluding her , she can't remember her children's names, or their spouses, let alone grandchildren.Yet sometimes for a bit of time she can be as bright as a new penny. We never know what's next...

Dearheart this is another lovely post. So heartfelt and quietly reminds us to step back and be thankful for even the little things.

Dolores, I appreciate you blog so much. It is helping me to understand just what my mom was going through when she started getting sick. God bless him; my dad tried so hard to keep it from me. Keep hanging on, friend.

I just mentioned on my blog about the joys and despairs we encounter with Alzheimers. Something so simple as using the phone.... lost. It's such a sad thing. Then I see the joy in David's face with his granddaughter. What a sweet pictures. Blessings, Latane

What a handsome grandson and beautiful granddaughter. It is such a blessing to have grandchildren , and it is wonderful to see David knows them and is happy with them.

The kitten has grown a lot!

Isn't it lovely to see young ones/teenagers still wanting to visit grandparents with alzheimers/dementia. My nieces and nephews don't mind visiting their grandfather, either. They are also respectful of the other residents too. Best wishes, Jenny

What fabulous grandchildren and I but you were quite happy to not have to set up your computer. I know I would be! How wonderful that they are able to spend this time with David(and with you of course!).

I wonder if they make an auto-answer bluetooth type thing for home phones...I'll have to check.

Did you re-show him how to answer the phone? I'm glad he had fun with the grandkids though!

Hi there! I popped over from Donna's blog and wanted to tell you how very much I can relate to your blog. My mom had Alzheimer's and it is such a tough disease...for the family as well as the person who has it. If you get a chance...pick up this book...it is called "Still Alice"
http://www.amazon.com/Still-Alice-Lisa-Genova/dp/1439102813

My sister and I both read it and it helped us to understand some of what my mom must have been feeling.

If I can help in any way...please do not hesitate to ask...anything...blessings to you and your family...

Hi Dolores - glad you both got to spend some time with your grandchildren. I know they enjoyed it, too, and will be glad they came each and every time as things decline. I have not ever regretted one moment spent with my grandmother.

Your little kitty looks almost exactly like my Sambo. Same coloring and everything! They are growing fast!

I hope y'all have a wonderful and memorable weekend, Dolores! Hugs!

Hi Dolores. I just posted a similar comment on Latane's blog...

I'm back home after my two-week vacation, and just catching up on all my mail, email, and blogs. I was a little nervous about catching up on your blog, because I was afraid of seeing bad news. I was so sorry to read about David's new difficulty with the phone, but delighted to see your photos of David and your grandchildren. Any man who can give such a big smile while bouncing a grandchild on his knee or swimming in a pool still has lots of life left in him :)
