...........................NEW ADDITIONS...................

Warning:   If you don't want to see naked feet or a commode.....go no further.

Don't you love when you spend  money on items and they turn out better than you'd hoped for;  that's exactly what's happened with my  recent purchases...and two gifts received..

My favorite new items:
Never  would I have thought of buying a bidet, but after reading a blog friend's post with an ad for a bidet.....hmmmmm, I thought this might be something helpful for me as I take care of David's bathroom business.  It was inexpensive, and easy to install.  And works better than I'd expected.

I had a little flip cell phone that I really liked, ....but when AT&T sent me a link that I was eligible for an upgrade,  I decided how nice it would be to check my e-mails and Face Book at night when I'm in bed and can't sleep.... which is often.  Our bill is a little higher with the internet, but I'm so in love with my Motorola Blur cell phone.

I bought a Kindle,  now I can read in bed at night or play word games and not wake David by turning pages....

Our daughter gave me a monitor.... it's sitting on my desk and the camera is in our bedroom..... I can not believe what a difference this has made in my life.   Before the monitor.... I was constantly checking on David, now I can see and hear when he goes in the bedroom or bathroom.  The little camera spans a large area.

The last time I drove to Houston to visit our daughter..... I managed getting lost.....stressed me.     Our sweet neighbor gave me a Tom Tom GPS navigation system.   I can't believe how easy it is to operate, and it tells me where to go....and I need to be told where to go... YEA!

I discovered the use  of a Podiatrist to trim David's toe nails.   No picture of the 'before' feet, but here's the after picture.  Trust me, they look so much better than when I was doing the trimming.

It seems as though I get rattled more often than I did in the past, so anything that adds to my peace of mind,  is a welcome addition to our life.
I took this picture last week .....and I say, 'thank you God for anything that makes care-taking easier.'

Amen to that, Dolores.
The job of a caretaker is such a difficult one. Anything that might help make that job a bit easier is wonderful. I'm sure many others will be blessed by these helpful ideas.
I personally can relate to the toe nail issue. It was a source of stress when my mom's had to be cut. One of the many things I learned was that toe nails get thicker as we age. When I would try to cut them she would yell out in pain sometimes and I was being as careful as possible. I was very happy when the "professionals" took over.

Sweetie...you are doing things RIGHT! You are. My father is always a MESS when I visit him in the Nursing Home and his feet...well...let go for far too long. Now, well...it seems hopeless.

You are was to stay on top of all you can. Today I'm praying for you and for your path to be made clear.

Love you~

Rebecca

So glad these new gadgets are helping you out, Dolores. Our son-in-law hooked us up with a nice ipod and cell phone. Before we knew nothing about them. Anything to help you is wonderful.

Those "little things" are monumental when you need them!!! Congrats on your new toys...and your cell phone may have a navigation application. My verizon phone has one and it is even better than the tom tom...I gave my tom tom away...
Check it out or have your kids check to see if one is available...mine talks to me and tells me the exact turns etc. to make...
Have a beautiful weekend my friend!!!

Hi sweetie, I'm not quite to having to have "all" of these items yet, however I can see the walls closing in and the need for them. I only hope I have as many generous friends and family as you've had to help out. This is such a challenging time..hugs ~lynne~

Hello my friend, so nice to see your smile. I can 'hear' it in your writing. What wonderful inventions these things are. So glad that they are helpful to you and make life easier for you. :) HUGS

Dolores, all of your gagets make so much sense. My husband used the GPS, but now, with one car, I use it at times and I am so glad that he cannot drive somewhere when I am gone with that GPS. In the fall he takes another Alzheimer's driving test to see if he can drive. Our friend "Jake" just failed that test and is having a horrible time accepting not driving.

I like my notebook computer which has a wireless Internet connection and helps me sit by my husband's side and get e-mail, etc., while he watches a boring movie. I can enlarge the words also. He was so thrilled when I got it several years ago. We have Skype and can see our church services when we need to stay home.

Technology has advantages certainly. The devices you chose make so much sense.

Hugs,
Carol

Glad you have some nifty gadgets to help you out! One thing though, I had the urge to reach into the computer and untangle your phone cord! I'm kinda obsessive about things like that... (smile). Well, I'd say David's nails look better than mine....(Yikes!)

Wahoo on all the little things that make life a bit more easier for you and for your beloved. I gave hubby a kendall, it makes sleeping much better now, no light in my eyes.

Now that is one new items I have not seen, a portable Bidet, will have to check that out.

Much prayer for you and yours and may your weekend be blessed.

And thank the Lord for the podiatrist! I like my GPS. And my husband finally listens to someone tell him where to go! He would never listen to me:D

Oh I know the feeling of getting frazzled easier when one has so much on the mind. (Sorry about bringing up reformatting. ;>) It is wonderful to be living in the 21st Century when there are so many things to help. That you care about keeping your beloved comfortable is a sign of your love for him. Be good to your Tom-Tom...those GPS systems have minds of their own sometimes.

What a great group of gadgets! I hadn't thought about the no noise benefits of a Kindle. I love my smartphone. How did we ever exist without them? LOL. I hope that the monitor will continue to bring you comfort and a chance to relax.

Oh Dolores! It's been a while since I checked in on you....and I promise to do so more often. I thought YOU were on my list of favorites...you are now!!!

I'm so glad you have the new 'gadgets'. Isn't it funny how we did without all these little 'niceties' before....but oh, how much easier it makes life!!

David looks good. I can't believe it's been 5 years. Mom's going on 6 years now. She'll be 91 in May. When I read how loving and caring you are with David, I get pangs of guilt....but I just couldn't care for her by myself anymore. The mother/daughter relationship made it even harder. She resented my 'mothering', and I sure didn't want to be the mother!!

Take care...you are an angel in disguise!~xoxoxox

I love this post!!

You are so hip and cool to take advantage of the new technology to help you in your daily life. How clever of you to work smarter, not harder.

Way to go, Delores!!

Delores, re-reading this, I realize what a tremendous responsibility you have. Praying for strength (and light moments!) for you. (Oh, and thanks for untwisting that phone cord for me.) ;D
