Here's the story, it's time to order David's prescriptions. We're in the so-called donut hole, so.... I thought I'd shop around for his generic Aricept.
The last time I ordered through the mail order pharmacy, a month's supply of the generic brand was $112.50. I thought this was high for generic.
I called Costco and ask if I needed to be a member to buy prescriptions. The answer was no, and the price for the generic Aricept is $21.22 per month.
The big difference in price doesn't make sense to me. I assume the generics are made by different drug companies....... anyway, it will be worth the 30 mile drive, plus it gives me a good excuse to get out..........
David takes Namenda, which is for people in the mid to late stages of Alzheimer's. Unfortunately it isn't generic. Costco is more expensive for Namenda....... go figure!
We've had a good week....considering. I took this picture of David a few minutes ago..... he's still enjoying his music. The doctor encouraged me to see if he would 'try' playing his guitar..... that's not happening, but I thank God he continues raising one hand up and clapping the other hand on his leg.....whatever!!
I love fall decorations.....
Happy weekend to everyone..... it feels like fall...... I love it!

If you ever want company when you go to Costco just shout. You might cherish that time Alone ... But know I'm available. Hugs to you brave one!!! Love Janice Martin
We found two medicines at our local Publix supermarket that are free--Metforman and Lisinopril! With our Preferred Care Medicare we paid $188.26 for three months of Namenda.
Love the picture of David enjoying music.
Hugs,

Wow. I was surprised by that good price at Costco. Hope that you can find as good a deal on the remaining prescription.
David looks happy and content...
It feels like fall? When did this happen? Wonderful! It certainly looks like fall in your kitchen with the view of the pool beyond. So lovely.
Enjoy...
Hey, I like a good deal and who can figure out how the drug business sets their prices!
I'm glad to see that David has things he can enjoy even if it isn't playing music himself.
Your home and decorations are lovely. Enjoy Fall!

Wow, that is quite a difference in price on the Aricept. It is hard to figure how they set the prices for prescription drugs.
Glad to see David smiling even if he won't play the guitar. It reminded me of a lady who lived with my mom in memory care. She had been a college professor and a gifted violin player. When I met her she was well into Alz. and would say a sentence that made no sense at all. One day they gave her her violin and she played beautifully. I was amazed.
The view out your window is so pretty with the fall decorations and the inviting swimming pool. So nice that you are enjoying some fall weather too.
Wishing you a good weekend.
Thank you for this post, I had no idea of the difference in cost. My hubby checked and could he could get some of his drugs cheaper too. Wonder why the mail-order are so expensive? If it had not been for your post we would have not known.
SO good to know David is getting uplifted by the music, such a happy smile on his face.
LOVE your decor and the arrangement in the kitchen, Perfection!
GOD bless and keep you all safe~
So happy you had a good week, I had a bad week. My husband hurt his back and you can imagine the problems. Being paralyzed on the left side and now hurting his back, wow, so much work. I am just so tired at night that I can't even talk plus my back hurts. But as you always say, God is good and things have to get better in time, I pray for that. Hugs...Lu
Hubby worked for FDA for 35 yrs. Yes, different companies do make the different generics, but they all have to meet the same requirements as the name brands. I had an older dentist who would never prescribe the generic because he didn't think they worked as well. He needed to be the one paying for them (LOL)! I am in charge of my 91 yr old mother's meds. One of hers is over $200 for non-generic 60 capsules, but yet I purchased 5 prescriptions for $45 all generic. It's so frustrating.
Praying for you and David.

It is ridiculous at what they charge for medication for Alzheimers patients. Even with Elbert retired Navy... they didn't carry the Namenda and other high price drugs so it was out of pocket.
David looks like he's having a good time.
I love the photo of David enjoying his country music. He really does look happy.
Also, you create such a lovely home. Your decorations are always tasteful and cute. I can barely make myself do holiday decorations, now that the kids are gone. :)
love your fall decorations...we are finally cooling down here in Texas....it's nice... Go Rangers...
Your home is so cozy, and what a pretty view of the pool from inside.
David does look happy, and why not, he is well cared for and enjoying his music. I hope you are able to take joy from each day in spite of the difficulties of dealing with David's alzheimers and managing prescriptions. I often wonder why so many prescriptions cost so much , especially when I learn of how inexpensive some of the drugs are to manufacture. I s'pose there are some good reasons, at least I hope so.
Ahhhh!! Love when he waves at us!!Hahaa...
I also think it's suppose to get cooler here tomorrow! The cold front is in Dallas right now headed our way...
hughugs
So good to seeing David smiling at his music, Dolores! He looks happy right now!
My husband is going 'round and 'round with the nursing home and drug company that we are having to go through to get his mother's Alz meds. He took her off Aricept after the staff physician told the nurses that he'd read a study that said Alz patients should be taking double the regular dosage. The Aricept was not doing any good at all for her, and they also had put her on an anti-depressant that clearly stated was not to be taken by elderly Alz patients! Can you believe that? And I think these two meds were not supposed to be given together. It's crazy. We all have to be the keepers of our own health and that of our loved ones!
It's all a racket - the drug companies are making so much money off of the consumer and the need for families to provide their products to their loved ones. And the Drs probably get a kick-back.
Sorry --- we've been on a tear with our facility here and the drug rep! Ok, now I'll get off my soapbox... ;)
Oh no! The 'donut hole'!! I remember it well with mom. The first time we 'fell' into it...I about had a heart attack. Her meds were over $1000/mo. Not good. At that time, there was no generic Aricept. I know what you're going through with it. Hang in there. You're continually in my thoughts and prayers.....both of you~xoxoxoxox
Isn't that just insane? It's almost as if they charge whatever they want! The drug companies own us! I have some of my meds mailed to me as it saves gas but I just love it that you used it as an excuse to get out...GOOD FOR YOU!
Glad David loves the music...that is wonderful.
It's been a wonderful fall...love the picture in the kitchen!
