It's always fun to have a birthday celebration last as long as possible. Tuesday evening our best friends and me started off with the first celebration for this wonderful man.. They brought 2 pints of Ben and Jerry's red velvet cake ice cream to AlzCare; it was mixed with Ensure and zapped in the blender to make a drink. He drank a huge glass of this sweet concoction. His eyes were open while we were there. The visit was a good one!!!
Friday our daughter, her husband and 3 of their children were here to celebrate his birthday. His eyes were open.....a good visit!
On Sunday our son and his family went with me to see David. His eyes were open for a few minutes and he tried his best to smile. A good visit!

Today....... his official birthday. David's sister will go with me to see him. Hopefully his eyes will be open. It will be another good day!
Several days ago I was sitting on David's bed with my head on his chest. I was looking into his blood shot eyes; I ask him if they hurt and he blinked his eyes several times, I feel like he understood. I put drops in his eyes and they're better already.
I also ask him to please smile... he always smiled a lot and now it's like his face is frozen.......... he tried to smile..... I could see the corners of his mouth barely lifting upwards, he was trying his best to smile.

I sometimes can't believe David's had Alzheimer's since he was 63 years old (diagnosed at 65).
When he was first diagnosed I thought it was
the end of the world. However, we've made a lot of precious
memories during this time.

Wishing David a wonderful birthday...sounds as if it's gotten off to a good start. How sensible of you not to all arrive at the same time. This way it is not overwhelming. Dolores, I hope that you can have the doctor add eye drops to David's medications. I had that done for my grandmother and she received them (Systane, I believe) four times a day. They helped her eyes feel so much better.
Love to you and your family...
Happy Birthday to darling David! He is a lucky one too for having such wonderful and loving family..but he planted wonderful seeds, never to be forgoten, so that's why he is lucky, caz he did just that MOST of his life, because not MOST of it was with Alzheimer!! Beautiful pictures of David celebrating his birthdays in the past, he was a darling boy and his wonderful, pure essence is still in his heart,I can persive it in his photos. Deep down inside him Dolores, I think he knows you, specially you, I feel this from your description, it's like he always wants so hard to communicate with you and he does in his own way. Enjoy his birthday, sweet friend, with him and your family.
Love,
FABBY
So happy for you both this week. Love the "glimmers" of communication. They lighten our hearts. Happy Birthday to your sweet husband.
Even though I have never met David I feel like I have known him for a very long time. the sweet smile, the dog he loves, your and David's closeness... So, he is definately a very good friend of mine. Happy Birthday, David from a friend far away.
What I love most is that you have decided that Monday will be another good day. I am sure that it will be! Happy Birthday to David.... it is wonderful that you have these lovely pictures of past celebrations!!
Wishing David a wonderful birthday and the every celebration brings him joy!!! Which will bring you joy too! I am praying that he will smile for you today!!!! Daddy knew me today and before I left, he told me to "be careful", that is what he always said to me before I left!!! I wanted to shout for joy! Yes, god is good!!!!!!!! I visit everyday and look for the seemingly small blessing, but large to me, of the day. There is one, or more every day if you look for it! Praying for you to find many today!!!
Wishing both of you a wonderful day.
Hugs,
Carol
That made me cry when I read what you wrote about putting your head on his chest....and you both communicating with each other. You both really are soul mates. And what a deep love you have for each other! I truly believe he knows and feels the love all around him...as I know you do as well.
Love you both so much! L~
Happy birthday, David!
I am always amazed how you appreciate the smallest things. I hope all the celebration days are good days. You are my inspiration.

Yes, indeed a wonderful and loveable man, husband and dad. There he is smiling now on the last picture. My lucky number is 13, that's my birthday, different month, but knew their was something special about David and now I know he is also on the 13th. It's an important number for me and anyone born on that day is also special to me. Blessings, Lu
Happy Birthday David, and I love the old photos! xox
my Heart is with you.
My soul is having an argument with God.
Tears are stuck in my chest.
I hate being brave.
I'll e-mail you my life as I know it now.
know you are held in high regard.
Belated birthday greetings to David. So nice that the visits were good ones and he was surrounded by the love of friends and family.
I enjoyed all of your photos, Dolores, but that first one is beyond adorable.

Sweet post about your beloved's birthday, Dolores. And it sounds like you spread the birthday fun out and he was "there" for all the celebrations. Eye-drops are good. I think my MIL needs them, too. I think of you and David often. I haven't been blogging much lately, but I had to come and check on you both - sending birthday greetings from East Texas!
Belated happy birthday sweet David!. I always pray that he still gets better. One thing for sure, David is surrounded by a dedicated family who loves him very much......Christine
Dolores,
Wishing David a Happy Birthday. We could all learn a lesson about love from you dear lady.
You know Alzheimer's makes us so mindful of how precious every moment of life is. You have memorized each cherished one here and in your heart forever.
Karen
David will be the love of your life .. for all eternity. Thinking of you today, Dolores.
Happy happy birthday to David - I am so glad he has been in your life all this time and so loved - both ways.

You know him so well, Dolores, and as the days progress and it seems he responds to you less, you will still ALWAYS know what he's thinking and what he needs. Just like with our infant children, we just know.
The photos are priceless, Dolores. And so are you~xoxoxoxox
I've never seen a family celebrate with photos as much as your hubby's parents did. AMAZING TO SEE!
Happy Birthday to your beloved.
Love, Rebecca
