We were digging through papers and came across a sheet of paper with David's distinguishing (actually hard to read) handwriting. It was a poem of sorts that he'd written to our son, when our son was 29 and expecting his first son (21 years ago). We read it and looked at one another.....what the heck, we'd never seen this poem.
Apparently David wrote the poem and decided he didn't like it and tucked it away. I'm glad he tucked it away; seeing his familiar handwriting and reading what he'd written, was a wonderful surprise Easter gift to us!!
Its been six months......sure seems longer!!!
(Casey and Punky are the best of friends)
(Something I read and immediately liked)
If a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:
When
loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
Never pass up the opportunity
to go for a joyride.
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your
face to be pure Ecstasy.
Take naps, stretch before rising. Run, romp, and
play daily.
Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
Avoid biting when
a simple growl will do.
On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
When you're
happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
Delight in the simple joy of a
long walk.
Be loyal.
Never pretend to be something you're not.
If what you
want lies buried, dig until you find it.
When someone is having a bad day, be
silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.
There comes a time in life, when you walk away from all the drama and people who create it.
You surround yourself with people who make you laugh, forget the bad, and focus on the good, so, love the people who treat you right.
Think good thoughts for the ones who don't ~ life is too short to be anything but happy.
Falling down is part of LIFE... Getting back up is LIVING...
DON'T COMPLAIN ABOUT GROWING OLD
FEW PEOPLE GET THE PRIVILEGE

.. are you comfortable sharing sweet David's poem with us? How wonderful that you found it ~~ and on Easter Sunday!!! Wishing you a happy week, Dolores.
Oh sweet lady, you did receive a gift from your dear David, just at Easter time! Your son was so sweet to bring it to you. Thank you for sharing about our loyal little friends...doggies are the best thing our Lord could give us, human beings as a gift, they are all you say so poetically and beautifully, I so enjoyed this great post from you. So happy to hear from you and know you are sounding so serene and
with pure generosity with life and specially with you, going forward. Big hugs, and enjoy your weekend.

Hi Dolores...so wonderful to hear from you! I have been thinking about you and today is the day you are here. I love that beautiful poem. It so pertains to our lives, doesn't it? Would you mind if I copied it over to my journal? If not, I understand. Continue to take care of yourself and remember all of us out here care for you deeply.
God bless you and your family,
Susannah
A gift from God! That was so sweet of him to have even written anything like that.
And yes fur babies are wonderful.
And life is a privilege.
Love, sandie
First I read "Easter Sunrise". I need glasses. Was a wonderful surprise for you.
And the thoughts you added about dogs were wonderful. Where do they get such profound wisdom! I know mine was such a comfort in recent days.
What a wonderful surprise! I love the dog poem. So true!
We've had such sad things happen to those around us lately that I've really been trying harder to appreciate the gifts that I've been given.

What a wonderful Easter surprise. I'm glad you had a nice day with your family. Sounds like someone might be getting into family history. I signed up for a class the end of this month. I was involved in the late 80's - early 90's before computers. I'm looking forward to my class and hoping to learn more about using the Internet to trace my roots.
That is so true about dogs. I come home and the cats ignore me, but the dog goes crazy!
You would not believe the grin I'm wearing. Why? Because of that poem that David wrote. I remembered the poem about forsythias that John wrote and went on a search...about a year ago he wrote it. Anyway, I read all the comments to John about that silly poem and yours was in there and you said that David had never written you a poem and that, in fact, you didn't think that he'd ever cracked a poetry book! Oh it's just so much of a God wink.
Glad to read David's poem was greeted with smiles. No doubt there were tears, but hopefully out numbered by the smiles. Best wishes, Jenny x
What a blessing to have resurrected David's poem on Easter! :) Thanks for sharing such an uplifting experience!
what a blessing to find that poem...I'm sure David is smiling....
God is so good, his timing so perfect, my sweet friend. I remember how delighted I was, how hard I cried after Johnny had died and unexpectedly I came across a love letter he'd hidden in a book he knew I would read. I think of you every day, knowing you're going through, feeling all that I am. We're blessed to have such great support systems.
SO many truths...especially the, "walk away from drama" part!
Love it and the photo! Who said cats and dogs can't get along?!!Hahaaa
Too Cute! Happy to see you posting!!

Sometimes a smile can come from the strangest of places. What a true delight this surprise would be. It warms your heart doesn't it? Keeping you close.
What a pleasant surprise, Dolores. David continues to look afte you! What a beautiful sentiment in that poem! Thanks for sharing it....Chistine
O Dolores, what a treasure!! Glad for you that you found this treasure!!
Love the picture of Casey and Spunky!! What cute little friends. Amazing what we can learn from them isn't it?
That was indeed a gift from David. A surprise that will warm the heart from now on. Love and Hugs, Latane
What a wonderful surprise! How great that he tucked it away rather than threw it away.
I love the photo of Casey and Punky. They do look like the best of friends.
As for the poem about dogs, I couldn't agree more. We can learn a lot from our furry friends. Sometimes I feel guilty about not going for more walks with Peanut, but she still shares her unconditional love.
Hello Dolores,
Just found you and followed. We too are experiencing the devastation of Alzheimers with a beloved family member. Your writings struck a chord.

What a beautiful gift to have found. Hope you had a superb b-day, thanks for Mr. P's wishes. I'm still "waiting" not so patiently on the dogs to come in, wanted to let you know I have not forgotten about you. fondly ~lynne~
I almost missed this post and I'm glad I didn't. Good to see you blogging and I like this advice too!
TOodles, Debbie
Keep the photos coming! Love them!
Wow, that is amazing and just brings tears to my eyes...what a blessing from David!
I was deeply ministered to by these words. I hope it is okay with you that I shared a small portion on my own blog of what you wrote. Thank you for sharing.
Blessings to you.
