CLOTHING, HAIRCUTS...LAUGHTER.......

David can still dress himself, but he does need a little direction with back/front - up/down. Some days he does fine, but on the days when he has a problem ..... I try to help as soon as possible. I don't want him to get upset with himself....the longer he struggles..... (you can imagine) he feels so defeated ........he doesn't need that!

Buying pull over shirts has made dressing easier. He can button his shirt, but it takes awhile, and it's frustrating for him...... why bother, when he can pull a shirt over his head...
If a shirt is on backwards or not buttoned properly, we've chosen to laugh.... our biggest laugh is the underwear on backwards. Laughing makes you feel good..... crying hurts....
He can't tie his shoes..... so, all of his shoes are slip on. His walking shoes do have ties, but he slips them on like they're slip on shoes.....whatever works...

This is probably more personal than you want to know, but ... I trim David's fingernails and toenails. At first I felt sad for him, he thought he could do it, and he couldn't. The process of trimming..... I'm getting the hang of it now, and we usually end up in laughter.

The hair.... what hair? Well, there is a little hair, and it does need cuttingfrom time to time. When this needs to be done, our daughter, Karen is there to the rescue. She says it makes her feel close to her dad, and she says she loves cutting his hair and visiting with him one on one. If he looks shaggy, then I know that Karen needs to come for a visit.

A year ago David went to our eye doctor for his yearly exam. His eyes were dialated and he had the routine exam ; ....... even though he can still read, he had a hard time reading the chart ......., this left him feeling down on himself and frustrated.
Another rountine appointment came due a few months ago. I decided to cancel the appointment. He doesn't need the stress!! I plan on doing everything possible to make sure we avoid stress.....

David still shaves everyday, and does a good job of it. When he starts having a problem with it, maybe he can grow a beard. I can't imagine me shaving him,....... but I never thought I'd trim finger and toe nails, so anythings possible.......especially with an electric razor.

I'm so thankful that David can still dress himself, read .... and shave. Most of all I'm thankful that we can laugh together!!!!.

I have been doing Wayne's finger and toe nails for a couple years now. He needs assistance shaving but sometimes(if we are not going out) I just let him shave and don't worry if it's not a good job.
Wayne needs assistance dressing or, as you say, things are backwards.
