Our family has gone to the beach each summer for as long as I can remember. After our children were married and had children of their own, we kept the tradition. It's always been a wonderful time for everyone to visit, play and eat together...... for longer than one day.
David has always loved the beach! He has walked for miles along the beach .......,and he'd take the children into the water, jumping the waves......... I always thought he went too far into the water, and it would scare me to death, but he loved it!
We missed going to the beach (for the first time) in 2007....I really thought this was going to be the end of our family vacations, but last year several of our grandchildren and our children wanted to know when we were going to the beach again, ......hmmmmm.......I wasn't sure if David could tolerate the change..(change is hard for people with Alzheimer's)... plus 10 grandchildren.
It's hard to find a house on the beach for 16 people.....but thanks to the internet, I managed to find a house in Surfside, near Galveston......, we left with the idea that David and I might stay one or two days..... whatever worked for him, but we stayed the entire week!
We made our bedroom comfortable for David to sit and read, away from the noise and confusion. He sat on the deck and watched the children playing on the beach.
I'm so glad we have our dog, Casey. David enjoyed taking her for walks on the beach
I'm not sure he had the best of times...., but he didn't complain. He didn't play with the children, like he'd done in the past, but I had to remind myself that we were together..... and we were making memories......new and different memories.
Not only did we go to the beach during the summer,......... but for 6 or 7 years we would go once or twice a year with our best friends to Port Aransas. This was a special time of spending a weekend of rest and realxation..... eating at our favorite restaurant, walking on the beach and just being together as best friends.
Life goes on and things change.........I'm so grateful for worderful memories and photos ........and, who knows..... we may have another beach trip in the future.
In 2005....... I thought our life as we had known it was over, but I've discovered that it isn't over, it's just different.
I thank God for sooo many blessings!
