A DECISION and a PRAYER ANSWERED

Summer 1963, expecting our first child.

Time.....the mystery of time...looking at this photo, it feels like a hundred years ago,............... and then....it seems like yesterday...time? The mystery of time!

I've recently heard of two drug studies that were recruiting Alzheimer patients in San Antonio. I've read about many of the studies, and had mixed feelings about them. I want a medication that will stop this awful disease, but I've felt apprehensive about trying a drug that might possibly have negative side effects. I don't want David changing, .......and yet, >>>>> I know he's changing.

I meticulously filled out all the paperwork, and last week I received a phone call from the company doing the testing. I answered hundreds of questions to see if David qualified.....and it sounded like he did...hmmmm...An appointment was set up for the middle of March.

The company assured me, that David would stay on all his current medications, because this is the only way I would consider doing any drug study. (Some of the studies require you to stop your current medications). They sent me the final paper work, ....hmmmm....now I'm worrying and starting to pray. Do we want to do this or not???????

With the appointment set........... I start to worry what 'if' the test medication makes him sick ...he's doing so well,...... this was suddenly feeling like a gamble.....

For me, one of the scariest parts of this disease...is the unknown. I don't want anything to change.......however, I want to do anything possible to help him and others.

I started praying for God to please give me peace about my decision. Well, the answer came so easily........ As I was reading the last of the literature sent to me...on the third page, it said David would be tested to see if he had the Apoe 4 gene....., and if he has it, he would NOT qualify. Sure wish they'd ask me about this from the very beginning.................When he went through all the testing at Baylor in Houston, the blood test revealed that he has the Apoe 4 gene ....which means he has the inherited factor, and he would not qualify for the study.

What a relief....... I wasn't the one who had to make the decision.....my prayers were answered....And I say, "thank you God for answering my prayers."

Isn't it amazing how God answers our prayers in ways that we least expect it?! I think your trepidation about the study was also part of His way of answering your prayer also. I loved looking at the pics! :-) Love you! L~

Dolores, I am so proud of the results of your prayer! David has peace now, along with moments of joy, laughter, things that interest him, and people to love. What could be better? None of us knows what the future will bring, but we all hope that our future will include the very things that you have provided for him. I am so proud of you. Nancy

As I read line after line of your post, all kinds of thoughts were running through my mind ... a chance to help others ~ a chance to improve ~ but in the end the decision didn't have to be made, which I believe is for the best. What will be, will be ~ and you will all make the journey together...
