We had a little rain on Saturday afternoon. It was such a welcome relief, but we NEED so much more! The last couple of days, the clouds have been such a tease, we think it's going to rain, and then it goes around us. This afternoon, there was hope again for the possibility of rain .........We were hoping and praying for rain and cooler weather.
Hours later....and here is our afternoon sky...... pooh, no rain again!

This is my first time to join Outdoor Wednesday hosted by Susan over at Southern Day Dreamers.
I'm amazed that anything in our yard is living, but here are some wonderful drought tolerant bushes in our yard ....Thryalis

Our Bottle Brush bush is blooming beautifully
The purple Duranta has doubled in size this summer and blooms almost continuously. Its beautiful purple flowers really attract the bees and butterflies.
Our pretty pink Crape Myrtle has been blooming since springtime. The pretty, pink delicate blossoms fall on the sidewalk and patio.
When David's outside in the late afternoon, he spends a lot of his time picking up the individual blossoms from the Crape Myrtle.

He also loves looking over the fence for the two donkeys (Henry and Schatze), and feeds them carrots or apples each day.

And I say, "thank you God for blossoms that David can pick up, donkeys that he can feed, and bushes that grow during drought conditions."

You know I would never think about being as detailed as picking up all of the crepe myrtyl blossoms (as opposed to sweeping) but then David IS an accountant!!! He's a detail man.
Dolores, you always find the positive side of life. I love that about you...
Dolores, that is the world's sweetest post! Sending you much love today on Outdoor Wednesday and wishing you many more days of enjoying the little things that are actually the big things of life. So happy that David has those donkeys and the crepe myrtle blooms and that God in His infinite wisdom and creativity created lovely plants that can tolerate draught conditions.
Happy Outdoor Wednesday from Florida...
XO,
Sheila :-)
Oh goodness Delores! How sweet are you??? You have to be the warmest and sweetest person ever!

Oh Aunt Dolores, I love this post!! It's so wonderful that you've created your own private oasis for you and Uncle David to enjoy each day! I remember seeing your gardens last summer and can't believe how much everything has grown! So happy you're participating in Susan's event...she's a real sweetheart!
Love you! L~
Very nice post - bless you and your hubby! I read with interest the note on your sidebar about Alzheimer disease - Our family has not been touched by it, but I worked in an Alzheimer unit when I was in Recreational Therapy. I was put in charge of that unit and it was a challenge for most health care workers, but not for me. I truly loved working with the residents there. It was a joy, and every day was a new day - and for some, every MOMENT was a new one, as well. I've been blessed with the gift of patience, and the residents became my friends. They knew they could count on me for anything they needed, even though they did not remember my name. They recognized my face when they no longer knew their own family members, as I spent so much time caring for them, and about them. I have cried at the passing of each of the friends I had made there. Alzheimer Disease can be a gift, if you look inside the package. Blessings to you on your journey.
Your flowers look very pretty despite the lack of rain. If your crape myrtles are anything like mine then I can imagine David is keeping very busy picking up all of those little blossoms. Your donkey neighbors are so cute.
I am always so inspired when I visit here as you have such a positive attitude and a thankful spirit.
Beautiful post!!!! I don't blame David, I'd want to feed the donkeys also!!!
I have none of those plants in my garden so it was nice to see something different.
You may want to drop by at Muddy Boot Dreams today as she has a post on Alzheimers with a forget me not flower card in support of her mother in law.
Dolores-I am so happy to read your post today. I found your blog for the first time. Besides sharing your flowers, you have shared your wonderful attitude and reminded me to be grateful everyday. I wish you and David many more days of donkey and flower petals :)
Hi you sweet thing.
My father passed after battling Alzheiers for 5 years. The care givers are such a blessing.
His sweet smile reminds me of my sweet dad.
By you having this blog and careing about sharing the word, you will find peace and blessings by helping others.
Lovely blog... i will be back for sure.

Hi Dolores,
I loved this entry. If only all of us could enjoy the simplest things! Maybe David still has things to teach the rest of us.
