YOU HAVE TO LAUGH!

David reads the newspaper everyday; I can tell from his comments,  he's having a difficult time understanding what he's reading.

I had to laugh/cry this morning when he told me I needed to be sure and read  what the weather has done.   He said the storm we had yesterday is causing rashes.   He was so concerned about us getting rashes!

I calmed him down after I read the headlines, and explained to him that it said, "The weather has caused a rash of accidents"........You have to laugh!

Last week he was ready to stop taking the newspaper because they were using the word crap,  he thought.... how awful.   I looked...... and he was reading about carp.    You have to laugh!

I'm still thankful that he spends so much time reading, whether he understands it or not.   He's fine, once I explain what he's read....... You have to laugh!

Speaking of laughter....... I have to laugh when I see the kittens tearing up my ferns, as they cavort and play....

And I say, "thank you God for laughter!"

That is so funny and David sounds so innocent. Laughter is the best medicine! Isn't that great? You have such a good outlook in life and I am so happy for both you and David. He really is getting the best of care. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend, Dolores!...Christine

WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Yes...you have to laugh lest you cry all the time.

I'm this way with my father AND my father in law. Last summer when visiting my inlaws my FILaw said to me "You know, my son lives in Oklahoma! Do you know him!?" I smiled and said "Yes! I do! VERY WELL!" :)

Your spirit is soooo awesome!

When my mother could remember everything and anything she wrote everything down in a notebook so that she could remember to tell me about it when I called. Now that she struggles to remember things she refuses to write anything down.

The sound of laughter is a thing of beauty for laughter spreads the very gift of joy.
That people they are drawn to happy people is not that hard to understand why.
Since everybody wishes to be happy and laughter it spreads happiness around.
Only the heartless could not like the sound of laughter for laughter is a very happy sound.
The sound of laughter sends out laughter ripples it is a sound one always loves to hear.
And laughter it gives rise to smiling faces and never fails to fill the cup of cheer.

Several years after my Mother passed away, my Dad met a lady who ended up having Altimers'....(sp on purpose).
It was a constant education until my Dad also passed...She went to live with a sister afterwards...
Those 5 yrs were...enlightening.

Oh! yes, You have to laugh sometimes, with walking about 10yrs.with my mom with Alzheimers,I always said you have to laugh to keep from crying. I went to visit her in Nursing home care one day and she was sitting with another little lady holding hands, I said mom what are you doing today? She said to me "We are waiting on the Train", I said where are you going? She said to me: Now that is none of your business, don't ask again! I quickly said OK!!Her expression was so cute! all I could do was just hug her! Blessings to you in this journey.

You are so brave. I do not know anyone with Alzeihmers currently, but appreciate seeing it from your eyes. Bless your heart.

The ability to keep a sense of humor through this disease is definitely something to be thankful for.
I kept a little notepad in my purse when I went to visit my mom. I would write down things she said because they were often so funny I had to come home and share them with my siblings and my husband.

Dolores,
Thank you for your kind comments regarding my recent post. It touched and warmed my heart.

I am reminded, as I read your post, of the scripture, "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine.". And, in the case of being a caregiver, it makes the difference in how we handle the loved one's illness. I am so thankful that God has given you such tremendous patience and love as you care for the love of your life. My thoughts and prayers are with you always.

In Grace,
Marie

Glad David still has interest in reading. The kittens look like they are really at a playful stage - the fern will have to be tough:)

And it also shows what a respectbable and dignified man Uncle David has always been to not like the idea of "crap" being in a paper. LOL!

Hi, I just discovered your website, and I love it. It's so lovely that you include so many photos. And I love the story about the weather causing rashes!

I've just started to write a blog about my father, who died on New Year's Day 2010. Reading your story about laughter made me think that you might enjoy the story about my father and the soup. Go to http://alzheimerhighway.blogspot.com and look for the story entitled "Feeding Sam - he sure loved that soup!"

Best wishes,
Gilda in Thornhill Ontario Canada
