HAPPY BIRTHDAY to DAVID!

(David 4 years old and sister Norma)
Today is David's 72nd birthday.   When he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in October of  2005,  I never thought/dreamed that 5 years later he'd still be doing as well as he is right now.   Sure we have some 'not so pleasant moments', and I wish he was like he was 8 to 10 years ago, but so much of 'who he is' is still intact, and I'm so thankful .............

A few days ago, I ask him how old he thought he was going to be, he thought for awhile, and said, "30"....when I told him 72, he said "Wow!    Actually, I say WOW too, where does time go?
(ON HIS 70TH BIRTHDAY)
The same day I said....you need to be thinking where you want  to eat, when our friends take us out to celebrate.   Without hesitation, he said..."PALMER'S, we haven't been there in a long time, and we have good memories there"  ...   I almost fainted that he remembered and responded so quickly.

We'll continue the celebration on Saturday, when our daughter's family comes for the day.

Happy Birthday blessings and love to our friend Hope and to David.

Thank you God for a good week!!!

Happy Birthday, David!

Miss D...you know what strikes me in this post? It is this...

The Old Photos!

My momma will be 76 in October and I am 51. Not only are there NO PICTURES of her as a child at birthday time but there are NO PICTURES of me as a child, teenager, at birthday time (and very few at any OTHER time)! David's parents must have really been on the ball to capture so many moments in time. I'd give so much to have even ONE of me on a birthday as a little girl.

Thinking of you this day and trying to focus on the glass being half-full vs. half-empty!

Blessings~

Love, Rebecca

My husband with dementia is 72 also. Today he was able to remember his age at the doctor's office.

Dolores, like you I relish the time I have with my husband. Five years to be so with it is great for this disease. You are a special lady! Enjoy the celebration!

Happy Birthday, David!
He was just channeling his inner self when he said "30." I'm 56 and I feel about 37 on the inside. David is just young at heart! :) I hope your birthday celebrations are lovely! ~~Rhonda

Hi!

Happy Birthday, David! "they" say that you're as young as you feel! I suppose that David feels 30! Good for him! I hope you have a wonderful Birthday Party on Sunday with the family!

I read your previous post, Dolores. My MIL was having bouts of anger, too, and striking out at people. She has done very well on her Namenda and Aricept. I can't remember if you told me that David was taking something. But like you said, it just goes with Alz. We can't take it personally.

I hope that you all have a wonderful weekend and that David will enjoy all the family and fun and festivities! Take care!

Dolores, the pictures are such sweet memories of the boy, who grew into the man you love and married...raised a family with, cherish, and grow sad because he is unable to remember so many special things you have shared together over the years. It is telling that he has loved a woman who loves him so much and is now the faithful memory keeper in the family, and that his birthday is all the more special for both of you.He remembered a special place! He even remembered his age is an old one, WOW !

As always, I repeat myself when I say I am so blessed by your love story ( for that is what your blog is )between you and David. Happy Birthday David!

Dearest Dolores
I just had to check to see how you and David were doing and found out that he had a birthday Friday. I do hope it was a very special one.

I am excited that David knew just exactly where he wanted to celebrate. Those snippets of remembrance are such special times and ones we will cherish always.

I love you for your sweet, encouraging words always but especially during these trying times the Bartons are going through right now. You have such a special place in my heart. God bless you. You are such a dear friend.

Oh WOW what a great day for David and you! Wonderful!

I would sing, David, but you wouldn't want to hear me. No sir!

Sorry that I am late, but I too have had guests.

HUGS to each of you! Lovin' the old photos - as with Dave, they're a treasure.
