FAREWELL to LILY

Lily was wedged very tight in the fork of a Crape Myrtle tree last Tuesday night (all night!).    I found her, released her from the tree, and took her to the Vet.    Her legs were paralyzed from the tight squeeze.

She's been on steroids, living in a crate in our utility room .    There's been no improvement,  so the hard decision was made to have her put to sleep yesterday.

This sweet little kitty has given us so much joy and comfort, and she's had a great life ... living in our backyard.
I was concerned how David would react to this situation, however he's doing well.   He said we did the right thing.  I'll be posting about David later, but for now I wanted my friends to know about Lily.
And I say, "thank you God for this sweet kitty that gave us so much joy."

Oh a great life lived in the moment as cats and our other animals help remind us to do....but so sad also. Have had to make similar painful decisions.

Still those moments enjoyed lengthen and stretch to eternity and you and David provided her playground and shared her haven for earthly pleasures and mischief!!

Oh, Dear, I am so sorry, she was such a sweet pleasure for you both. It is so hard to have to let them go. I am so glad David understands that you both did the right thing for Lily.

Hi darling, How hard this decision must have been for you. Isn't it something when they tell us we've done the right thing and we're worried about how they are going to take things? I think of you so often darling, I'm hoping now that I have the shop open full time I'll find more time to swing by and say hello.. many hugs sent your way ~lynne~

Have had to put pets to sleep. It is hard. One dog died the day of the Columbine shootings years ago and my heart went out to the students, teachers and parents that day and that helped me.

When Woofii had to be put to sleep, five days later we got Ziggy. I am so glad we did because a year later my husband was diagnosed with dementia and Ziggy has been his constant companion.

Glad that David understands.

I am so sorry about sweet little Lily. I have a paralyzed dog and they are a tremendous amount of work.

So glad that your husband is taking this so well. It's heartbreaking I know! Our pets are like family!

Dolores, how sad. Poor little Lily-Bud. I've wondered about her today after you told me. Just now got to my computer. I am so sorry - she was so sweet and she did look so much like my little Sam. He's gone, too. It's hard, but I know you did the right thing by her. She couldn't have a good quality of life like that. My heart goes out to you, my friend. I'm glad David took it well. Sending big hugs your way. God bless you both with peace about your decision.

Oh, this is so sad. Lily looks so very much like my Miss Marple. I have lost two precious cats these past few months , I know how you must be feeling. I have been unable to post pictures or talk about the loss of my kitten because I cannot stop crying for missing him...as I am now doing. For you and for me.

You are right though, praise God for Lily and the time she was here to lighten your days with her sweet silliness and kitten joys.

I'm so sorry for your loss of Lilly. She looks like she was just a precious kitty. God has a special place for our animals. Have you read the Rainbow Bridge?

I have known some people with a dog
who is paralyzed. It walks with a
little harness and wheels like a little doggy wheelchair. Yes it is
"a lot of work" but if you have the
time to put into their day, they have
a great quality of life. I guess I am
an elder who doesn't "buy" that they
have to be put "to sleep" in all cases. Open minded at 64.mm, vancouver,wa.

To Anonymous...I'm sorry, but a lot of us do not agree with you. This wonderful Angel, Delores, Has her hands full as it is...You seem to have forgotten the human element to this sad story, the Humans that are involved. She and her husband loved Lily with all their hearts...Seeing her suffer was Not on their agenda. You obviously are not a reader of her blog. Not everything is "cut and dried" in life, especially Human emotion. I would have done the same!
Delores...feel free to take my comment down but I could not let this pass...I know how hard all this IS on you and your husband...Bless your hearts....

Dolores, I feel for you and David for having lost a sweet cuddly friend. Life is certainly difficult enough as it is without having to deal with losing Lily. Hugs and prayers always for you.

Dolores, I'm so sorry about the loss of your beloved pet; believe me I've been there. Since we keep our pets all their lives, we've had to have several put down due to crippleness, pain, cancer...you name it. Getting attached to a pet always has that price. But we love them, we enjoy them. We so appreciate the intelligence God has placed in them and their ability to return our love. We make tough choices because we are compassionate and caring, which is what you had to do. David and you were in agreement. So said!
And to anonymous: Sometimes it is best to say nothing.
