Saturday morning, and it was David's bath time, shampoo the hair, trim finger and toe nails, trim the hair, and trim the beard. When finished, he said to me,......"my mother whose in heaven...... would tell you, thank you for taking care of her boy." How sweet is that!!!!
Friday night was our grandson's high school graduation .
Here's two proud grandma's and their sweet grandson.
I knew the long wait, the noise ... and confusion of a graduation ceremony would be hard for David.
We are so blessed to have the best of friends! They offered to stay with David.....
He had the best time! They ordered pizza (which he loves). I'd placed a container with some pool toys by the pool for our friend's 10 year old daughter; included was a large pink ball.
They started throwing the big pink ball back and forth to him, and he loved it. He would catch it and throw it back.
For the past three evenings we've tossed the big pink ball back and forth. Yea!
When our friends are with David, they always encourage him to talk of his memories. He talks and talks about his memories with Coca-Cola and King Ranch.. and because of that..... we have some new and wonderful memories!
GOD IS GOOD!

Such a sweet post. There is no doubt that you really do love that man. That's what its' all about. Lovely photos by the pool.
You do take good care of him and I know his mama thanks you as do your children and grands. What a sweetie. He's not too hard to love. What a happy time graduation is and to celebrate a grandon's achievement is a sweet blessing.
And finally, good friends who are truly willing to help are sent from God. What a blessing all the way around!
of course I meant to type grandson...my fingers are just tired ;>
How could you not keep falling in love with him over and over for all the sweet things he says. I know its the little things that melt my heart that my hubby does.
Contrats to your g-son for his accomplishments.
God bless you with wonderful friends. I so adore your flowers.

You are such a model for all of us. I know that you do lovingly what is yours to do and that you look for the blessing in every situation. Because of this you life, if difficult, is truly rich as well.
New moments to remember! Wonderful post. They can keep their enjoyment of life and of old memories!
Precious words that I'm sure you will treasure. How blessed to have such good friends. It sounds like they had a good time. I'm glad you were able to get out of the house for the evening. Doesn't it blow your mind when you have to look UP at your grandchildren? :-)
Congratulations to your very handsome Grandson ! This post brought tears to my eyes. What a love story. I am so glad you share this with us. You offer hope and show joy even through Alzheimers.
What a lovely post! I hope you bookmark it for yourself, and read it often :) Best wishes, Jenny
Oh, I love the way David treats you Dolores. Such a sweet man, so many lovely words are in his heart.
I think it is so important for someone to listen to the memories. When I was a young girl I would visit my grandfather often. We didn't know it back then, but PaPa had some kind of dementia. Every weekend I would sit with him, and he would tell me the same stories over and over again. My Grandmother told me that sometimes he thought I was his daughter Olive walking up the walk when I came. We never suspected a thing.
The investment that we make in our loved ones is the best investment we can make. Being there makes our heart rich with love that lasts our entire lifetime.
Wishing you and David a lovely day.
Karen
All I can say is... Awwww, how sweet!

You have set the bar high for us in the way you are caring for him. What a blessing to read this post. Brought tears to my eyes. What gratefulness fills his heart. What blessings you have in sweet friends who will come and stay with him and you all not have to endure the confusion etc that would abound had you taken him. So glad you could go to the graduation and have peace that he was being cared for so well.
Blessings on your week.
My heart goes out to you because I know how hard it is to watch the changes in someone you love, but when he is still able to express his gratitude for what you do for him...that is really special.
Your friends are wonderful...you were able to enjoy the graduation and he was able to enjoy their visit.
Congratulations to your grandson on his graduation. What a wonderful picture of the 2 proud grandmas and the happy, handsome graduate!!
I found David's recent comments to you to be so sweet and so touching. It is very evident that you love him a lot and I am sure he is correct about his mother who is in heaven.
It sounds like you have some wonderful friends. It's great that they had so much fun in the pool and also take the time to listen to David's memories.
In my experience with my mom and Alz. I found that mixed in with all of the loss and sadness there were sweet moments like you shared in this post.
You know the one thing I am so grateful for in your situation is that David thanks you. It makes the burden a bit lighter, doesn't it?
You have wonderful friends. But then, you ARE a wonderful friend!
Oh Delores, how sweet David is even in his illness! No wonder you take such wonderful, loving care of him! I am so glad you got to go to the graduation. What a handsome boy your grandson is! XO, Pinky
Yes you do love him and he loves you. It is so great that he knows how much you love him. Wonderful post and great looking grandson too. Congrats to him. And you have the nicest friends.
Dolores, Everything you mentioned in your post that you do to David I also do for my husband. One of these days I will post about him.
